Ballet Folklórico de México

Tuesday, January 26, 2010 • 7:30 pm

In 1952, Amalia Hernández, dancer and choreographer, founded the Ballet Folklórico de México, having embarked, at a very early age, on a never-ending quest to rescue the dancing traditions of Mexico. In her unique choreographic interpretations of Mexican tradition, the present time fades before our eyes and thus commences a journey through the past. The Lords of Heaven and Earth come back to life, the Jaguars, the Gods born of human flesh, thirty different cultures that blossomed in centuries once, all leaving behind a trail of color into which Amalia Hernández and the Ballet Folklórico de México have developed the choreographies for 40 ballets performed by over 75 dancers.  The music, technical perfection, sophisticated wardrobe and original choreographies, create this singular character of the Ballet. Amalia Hernández and the Ballet Folklórico de México have been distinguished with more than 200 awards in recognition to their artistic merits.

Rioult

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 • 7:30 pm

Rioult, then known as the Pascal Rioult Dance Company, was the hit of the first Choregus Productions’ season and brought down the house with their dynamic Bolero. Rioult is the first company to be invited for a second appearance on the Choregus roster. Rioult was founded in 1994 and quickly became an established name in modern dance with a reputation for creating and presenting the sensual, articulate, and exquisitely musical works of Pascal Rioult. Born into the American modern dance tradition, Rioult is creating its own legacy of theatrically produced, contemporary dance that speaks to the mind as well as the heart of the global community. The New York Times has referred to Pascal Rioult as the replacement for George Balanchine. For their second Tulsa appearance, the company will perform a new program of recently completed work.
